Cambodia has seen a 78-percent decline in air passengers during the first 10 months of 2020 due to the impact of COVID-19, the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation said in a report on Tuesday.

The Southeast Asian country had received roughly 2.1 million air passengers during the January-October period this year, sharply down from 9.69 million over the same period last year.

The kingdom has three international airports, one in capital Phnom Penh, one in the cultural province of Siem Reap, and the other in the coastal province of Preah Sihanouk.

The report said the Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville international airports had handled 1.27 million passengers, 618,459 passengers and 210,108 passengers respectively, down 74 percent, 81 percent, and 86 percent.

Sin Chansereyvutha, a spokesman of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation, said the impact of COVID-19 has caused a huge loss to the civil aviation although the estimation has not been made yet.
