The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has called on the Thai government to fund in part the operation cost of the Thai capital's extended BTS Green Line rail systems.

Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang said on Tuesday the BMA is running short of money, with a gap of an estimated eight billion baht (about 265.16 million U.S. dollars), to pay for the operation cost of the extended BTS Green Line rail systems.

Bangkok Mass Transit System PCL (BTS), the operator of the skytrains, might probably stop operating the Mo Chit-Khu Khot route if the BMA failed to settle the overdue payment incurred since 2018, according to the Bangkok governor.

The northward extension of the Green Line rail system is scheduled to be officially opened for traffic on Dec. 16, he said.
